Tumor Marker Assessment
Tumor marker testing involves measuring certain substances produced by the body—or by cancer cells themselves—in response to a tumor process. The CEA marker (carcinoembryonic antigen) is analyzed. Although it is not specific, an elevated level of this marker may prompt closer monitoring or further diagnostic evaluation, particularly in the context of certain digestive system cancers. This test is always interpreted in relation to the clinical context, as well as other laboratory and imaging findings.
